Department Overview

Since the restructuring of the Oriental Institute of Technology Department of Electrical Engineering in 2000, in order to improve students' interest in learning and to keep pace with the electrical engineering information industry, the curriculum is constantly being updated. Therefore, it is necessary to provide students with information about the curriculum and teaching resources of the department, so that in the four years of their time with the department, students will be able to create a proper study plan and have a full learning career. With changes in the industry and the recruitment of teaching staff, from the original electrical field in the founding period of the department, we have also expanded to the fields of control and computer. The academic system has also expanded from the two-year junior college structure to the two-year and four-year college. Currently, the department has 12 full-time classes under the four-year college system. The duration of studies is four years with a maximum extension of two years. The development fields of the department is defined as "electrical energy technology" and "system and smart control", we hope to cultivate the high-quality talents needed by the industry.

 

In the department faculty, there are 18 full-time teachers, including 2 professors, 12 associate professors, 3 assistant professors, and 1 lecturer, with 94% of the faculty ratio at the level of assistant professor or above. Out of the teaching staff, there are 5 professional electrical engineers, 10 with B-level technician license, and most have more than 2 years of practical work experience. The proportion of teachers with licenses or more than 2 years of practical experience is 75%.

 

In addition to the usual lectures, each teacher is also actively involved in research. Therefore, they have achieved quite fruitful results in the research projects of the National Science Council and the special research projects of the school.

When it comes to teaching counseling, the department provides remedial education. It is recommended for new students with lower general admission test scores to supplement their courses with "Basic Mathematics". Emphasis is placed on computer language teaching, the application skills of professional software, and the training of students to work by hand. In addition to internships and practical courses, the department offers "after-school reinforcement" courses such as circuit science, electronics, calculus, engineering mathematics, basic mathematics, English, etc. for students with poor learning or other special learning needs. Each teacher also sets a minimum of 4 hours of "after-school tutoring time" to discuss the concepts that are not fully understood in the classroom with the students.

 

The department currently has two basic laboratories, namely the electronics laboratory and the electrical machinery/green energy laboratory. The electrical energy technology laboratories include the power electronics and power electronics verification laboratories. The systems and smart control laboratories include the optoelectronics, smart software, microprocessing, and smart robots/automatic control laboratories. There are also electrical energy technology research rooms and 18 special research rooms. The College of Information and Communication Science also has an embedded systems competence certification center and two communication line certification laboratories, which are used by teachers to guide the students on conducting research, special projects, and license training.

 

When it comes to research institutes, through recommendation or admissions test, past graduates have been admitted to electrical engineering related research institutes of renowned public and private universities such as National Tsing Hua University, National Cheng Kung University, National Chung Hsing University, National Central University, National Chung Cheng University, National Taiwan Ocean University, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, National Taipei University of Technology, National Yunlin University of Science and Technology, Chang Gung University, Yuan Ze University, and Chung Yuan Christian University. There are too many successful candidates to be named and they have achieved outstanding results.

 

In addition, the practical abilities of the students' special research have received the firm affirmation of the industry. In order to enhance students' learning outcomes, apart from participating in the special research projects of teachers, the department also actively plans the participation of students in various special competitions outside the school.

 

The department has more than 40 years of history. In the past 40-something years, the department has accumulated a wealth of teaching experience and research equipment, and we are a Far Eastern affiliated company. We are close to T-Park and Tucheng Industrial Park, which offers potential convenience to the students' industry internship, and provides a good connection to the research and development of the teachers. In addition, the school is located next to the MRT station and there are many bus stops, so the transportation is very convenient. The teacher-student relationship is very harmonious, and we hope that the efforts mentioned above will enhance the future competitive advantage of the department.
